SUBJECT
Parking Brake Warning Illuminated; Fault Code [NEW] 6023 Control Module Power Supply Is Stored
MODEL
E70 (X5)
SITUATION
The customer may report that the parking brake warning has illuminated. The Parking Brake Module (EMF) has fault code 6023 Control Module power supply KL 30 stored.
INFORMATION
The EMF Control Module incorporates an electric motor, which is used to apply the parking brake shoes at the rear axle brakes. The EMF Module monitors the voltage supply to this electric motor to ensure proper parking brake operation. In the event of a low voltage supply condition, the EMF Control Module will trigger a warning light in the instrument cluster to inform the driver of a parking brake error.
When diagnosing voltage supply faults for the EMF System or other vehicle systems, it is important to perform a voltage drop within the affected electrical circuit. The EMF fault 6023 is specifically related to the power supply to the electric motor for the EMF. During the course of diagnosis, the electrical connection (X10375) at the EMF Module should be thoroughly checked. The pins of the EMF Module should be inspected for any signs of damage or poor contact. Pins 11 and 13 of Connector X10375 should be checked for proper contact, using a suitable tool such as the brown male connector from the BMW Connector Test Kit (Part Number 61 13 1 467 775). If one or more of the pins has insufficient contact pressure, the pins can be removed from the connector and reworked, using a small screwdriver. If sufficient contact pressure cannot be achieved, any loose pin contacts should be replaced. In the case of a damaged pin of the EMF Control Module, the EMF Module must be replaced. If necessary, refer to ETK/EPC for the appropriate part numbers.
