MODEL
E70 (X5) produced up to 8/2008 and equipped with Comfort Seats (SA 456)

E71 ( X6) produced up to 8/2008 and equipped with Comfort Seats (SA 456)

SITUATION
The leather cover on the adjustable thigh support, located at the front of the seat cushion, is loose. The cover has pulled away from its fasteners on the thigh support frame.

CAUSE
Insufficiently tight fastening of the thigh support cover, due to the position of the retaining tabs

CORRECTION
Modify the retaining tabs on the thigh support frame.

PROCEDURE

1. Remove the thigh support per Repair Instruction REP 51 17...

2. At the front corners of the support, the cover is secured by 4 steel tabs, which are part of the thigh support frame.

3. In the area that became unsecured, pull the cover (1) back to expose the retaining tabs (2). Each side of the cover is held in place by 4 retaining tabs.

4. Bend the tabs outward to create a gap of A=3-4 mm between the tabs and frame.

5. Resecure the thigh support cover to the modified retaining tabs by simply pressing it into the 3-4 mm gap. The plastic retaining flange on the back of the cover will lock into place.

6. If the cover will not lock into place, inspect the plastic retaining flange on the cover. If this flange is cracked or otherwise damaged, the cover must be replaced.
