Computer/Control - 'Increased Batt. Discharge' Displayed

SI B 61 05 10
General Electrical Systems

April 2010
Technical Service

SUBJECT
Check Control Message "Increased Battery Discharge" Appears Upon Startup

MODEL
E70 (X5)
E71 (X6)

Vehicles produced up to April 1, 2010 that have an integration level earlier than E070-10-3-501

SITUATION
The check control message "Increased Battery Discharge" appears in the instrument cluster and CID (Central Information Display) when the vehicle is started.

DME (Digital Motor Electronics) fault code "2DED" is stored, indicating "closed circuit current violation".

CAUSE
Power management software error

Closed circuit current problem of 80 - 200 mA is indicated even though no problem exists.

PROCEDURE

1. Using the latest version of ISTA (Integrated Service Technical Application), perform the energy diagnosis test plan. The test plan will be automatically called up, based on the DME fault code "2DED". Complete the entire test plan and record the DIAGCODE.

2. If "Closed circuit current infringement" is listed as the most likely cause in the test plan results, proceed to the next step. If other possible causes of the fault are listed, diagnose them accordingly.

3. If closed circuit current problems are noted between 80 - 200 mA, program the vehicle using ISTA/P 2.37.0 or later to integration level E70-10-3-501 or higher. If the integration level of the vehicle is already at E070-10-3-501 or later, or the closed circuit current results listed are not between 80 - 200 mA, troubleshoot the problem as per SI B61 05 09 and B61 08 00.

Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.

For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to Centernet/Aftersales Portal /Service / Workshop Technology / Vehicle Programming.
