SUBJECT
Rear View Camera with Top View Display Flickers

MODEL
E70 (X5) equipped with Rear View Camera with Top View (SA 3AH) and produced up to 4/2010

E71 (X6) equipped with Rear View Camera with Top View (SA 3AH) and produced up to 4/2010

E72 (X6 ActiveHybrid) equipped with Rear View Camera with Top View (SA 3AH) and produced up to 4/2010

SITUATION
A distorted view may appear in the CID (Central Information Display) when the rear view camera or top view camera is switched on. One of the cameras may display a flickering image (with a green background), or an image that cuts in and out (with a blue background).

On E70 and E71 vehicles, the rear camera is typically the only one affected.

On E72 vehicles, the side cameras are typically the only ones affected.

Note:
This situation only affects vehicles with the Rear View Camera with Top View (TRSVC) (option SA 3AH), not the previous Rear-view Camera (SA 3AG).

Fault codes AB78 and/or AB79 may be stored in the TRSVC control module, depending on the severity of the condition.

CAUSE
The LVDS (Low-voltage Differential Signaling) cable from the TRSVC control unit to the respective camera is either damaged, or the damping rate is too high.

[NEW] CORRECTION
Replace the respective LVDS cable.

PROCEDURE
Refer to the attached document, SI B660310, Procedure for the E70 and E71 rear camera cable replacement procedure.

The replacement procedure for the E72 is similar yet requires 2 cables, due to the placement of the TRSVC control unit in relation to the side cameras.
