64 50 100 Removing And Installing (Replacing) Heat Exchanger For High-Voltage Battery Unit

Special tools required:







WARNING:
Risk of injury.
Refrigerant circuit is under high pressure.
Avoid contact with refrigerant and refrigerant oil.
Read and comply with safety regulations:
- Handling R 134a refrigerant
- Handling refrigerant oil







IMPORTANT:
Risk of damage.
Restart engine only when air conditioning system has been correctly filled.
Follow Instructions for opening and replacing parts in refrigerant circuit.
If air conditioning system is opened for more than 24 hours:
Replace desiccant insert for A/C system.







IMPORTANT: When working with refrigerants, wear protective glasses and gloves.







Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Drawing off, evacuating and filling the A/C system are not included in the time value given for this work operation
- Remove left underbody panelling







Slacken nut (1).
Tightening torque: 64 50 3AZ
Detach pipes (2) from threaded pins (1). Release screw (3). Remove refrigerant line with associated seal. Release screw (4). Remove refrigerant line with associated seal.
Tightening torque: 64 50 1AZ
Release nut (5).
Tightening torque: 64 50 2AZ
Detach holder (6) from threaded pin (5).

Installation:
Replace sealing rings.
Use special tool 00 9 030 to mount sealing rings without damaging them.







NOTE: For purposes of clarity, graphic shows component removed.

Disconnect plug connection (1). Detach wiring loom on the body side at points (2).
Carefully press together coolant hoses (3) with suitable tool to prevent coolant from escaping.
Release hose clamps and remove coolant hoses (3) from the heat exchanger (4).

Installation:
Ensure correct wiring loom routing.







IMPORTANT:
Coolant emerges when coolant hoses are detached.
Catch escaping coolant and dispose of it in accordance with applicable national regulations.
Check coolant hoses for leaks after installation.







After installation:
Connect BMW diagnosis system:
- Service function: High-voltage battery cooling system: Fill cooling circuit

Add coolant in the high voltage accumulator, correct coolant level as needed.

NOTE: Refill with new coolant.







After installation:
- Evacuate and fill A/C system
