A/T - Hybrid A/T Control Module Communication Failure
SI B24 06 09Automatic Transmission
December 2009
Technical Service
PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THIS SERVICE INFORMATION ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES THE NEXT TIME THEY ARE IN THE SHOP FOR MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS.
SUBJECT
Service Action: Program Control Units (Hybrid Transmission Control)
MODEL
E72 ActiveHybrid X6 produced from 9/08/2009 to 12/07/2009
SITUATION
Communication to the hybrid transmission control may fail after the vehicle wakes up or when terminal 15 is switched on.
Because communication between the hybrid transmission and other control modules is required for normal operation, the vehicle cannot be started if this situation were to occur.
CAUSE
An error in the hybrid transmission control software
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves E72 ActiveHybrid X6 vehicles produced from 9/08/2009 to 12/07/2009.
In order to determine whether a specific vehicle has had this Service Action completed or is affected by this Service Action, first check the B-pillar label for code number 555. If code number 555 has been punched out, the campaign has already been performed. If code number 555 has not been punched out, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.
PROCEDURE
Program the vehicle using ISTA/P 2.36.1 or later.
Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.
For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to Centernet / Aftersales Portal / Service / Workshop Technology / Vehicle Programming.
LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
This Service Action has been assigned code number 555. After the vehicle has been checked and corrected, if necessary, obtain a label (SD 92-366) and:
A. Emboss your BMW center warranty number in the middle of the label (1):
B. Punch out code number 555 (2) printed on the label; and
C. Affix the label to the B-pillar as shown.
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one, because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
