Removing and Installing/Sealing Left Cylinder Head Cover
11 12 005 Removing and installing/sealing left cylinder head cover (S63)Special tools required:
Necessary preliminary tasks:
^ Remove acoustic cover
^ Clamp off battery negative terminal
^ Remove left intercooler
^ Remove intake filter housing
^ Remove expansion tank.
^ Remove coolant pipe from cylinder head cover (E71 only)
^ Remove coolant valve for heater feed line
^ Disconnect fuel feed line
^ Detach wiring harness for injectors and lay to one side
^ Remove ignition coils, cylinders 5-8
^ Remove injectors, cylinders 5-8
^ Remove high-pressure pump
Unlock vent line at the positions (1) and remove line.
Unfasten screws (2).
Release screws (1).
Remove holder (2).
Tightening torque 17 10 6AZ. Take off holder.
Note:
Right side.
Release nut (1) from vacuum reservoir.
Tightening torque 11 65 6AZ.
Lay vacuum reservoir to one side.
Unclip plug (1) from holder.
Unfasten screws (2).
Tightening torque 11 12 4AZ.
Note:
Left side
Release nut (1) from vacuum reservoir.
Tightening torque 11 65 6AZ.
Lay vacuum reservoir to one side.
Remove plug (2) from holder.
Unclip plug (1) from holder.
Unfasten screws (2).
Tightening torque 11 12 4AZ.
Unclip all vacuum hoses and oxygen sensor cables.
Take off holder (3).
Release bolts in sequence (17 to 1).
Remove cylinder head cover.
Clean sealing surface (1) with special tool 11 4 470.
Installation:
Replace seal (2).
Installation:
Renew profile seal of cylinder head cover.
Installation:
It is important to join screw (1) for exact positioning of the camshaft sensors.
Fit cylinder head cover.
Position screw (1).
Release screw (1) by 90°.
Secure cylinder head cover in sequence (1 to 17) in two work steps.
Tightening torque 11 12 3AZ.
Assemble engine.
