Clicking Noise when Turning Wheels while Vehicle Is Stationary

MODEL
E70, E71

SITUATION
A clicking noise is heard from the front end when turning the wheels while the vehicle is stationary. The noise is heard outside of the vehicle. There is no noise when the vehicle is in motion.

CAUSE
The inner bushing on the wheel hub carrier (swivel bearing) is slipping when turning the wheels and is causing a popping noise.

PROCEDURE
Confirm that the noise is coming from the wheel hub carrier while turning the steering wheel with the vehicle stationary.





If the noise is coming from the wheel hub carrier (1), replace the carrier on the affected side.

Note:
The wheel bearing, tie rod ends and other equipment installed on the carrier can be reused.
