Replacing Backrest Release Cable for Front Left or Right Seat




52 14 028 - Replacing backrest release cable for front left or right seat





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Partially remove backrest cover Replacing Backrest Cover for Left or Right Front Seat
- Remove trim cover for outer fitting Removing and Installing/Replacing Trim Cover for outer Fitting on Front Seat
- Remove inner cover Removing and Installing/Replacing Inner Cover on Left or Right Front Seat
- Remove seat belt pretensioner 72 11 041 Removing and Installing/Replacing Front Left or Right Lower Belt Fitting (Seat Belt Tensioner)
- Disconnect airbag module plug connection Service and Repair
- Remove coupling gear 72 11 033 Removing and Installing/Replacing Front Left or Right Seat Belt





Disengaging Bowden cable from LVK module:
Lever out cable counter-support (2).
Unhook Bowden cable nipple (1).





Unclip bracket for Bowden cable from backrest frame.





Remove toothed segment cover (1) as follows:
- Raise cover in upward direction
- Slide cover upwards and detach






Note:
Before removing the backrest, it is essential to move the backrest forwards:

Pull Bowden cable (1) and press backrest forwards.





Tunnel side:
Release screw (1).

Installation:
Screw (1) must be replaced.

Tightening torque 52 10 07AZ 52 10 Front Seats.





Door side:
Release nut on opposite side from stud (1).
Drive out stud (1) with plastic mallet.

Installation:
Stud (1) and nut must be replaced.

Tightening torque 52 10 08AZ 52 10 Front Seats.





Remove backrest frame from seat mechanism as follows:
Lever tunnel-side backrest frame with screwdriver over bushing.
Then remove backrest frame in upward direction by pulling with alternate movements.
Tunnel-side plastic bushing (1) must not be damaged.





Disengage return spring (1).

Installation:
Replace return spring (1).

Note:
Cover working area.
Do not allow any chips to get into the seat and backrest mechanisms.

Mark rivet (2) with centre punch and drill out.





Lever out cover (1) with screwdriver.






Installation:
Before fitting kinematic assembly, apply a thin coating of grease to contact surface.





Installation:
Engage return spring (1) before screwing kinematic assembly into place.





Installation:
Rivet is replaced by a stud.
Nut must be screwed on on inside of backrest.
Lug (3) of kinematic assembly must be positioned next to stop (2).
Screw on kinematic assembly.
Tightening torque: 52 10 09AZ 52 10 Front Seats.
Check kinematic assembly for ease of movement.





Installation:
Press cover (1) with positioning pin onto backrest frame.





Overview of finish-assembled (new) Bowden cable from spare part kit.





Backrest mounting on door side:
1. Install door-side backrest link (1).
2. Backrest link (1) must be joined centrally on blocking cam (2).
3. Connect stud and tighten nut hand-tight.





Backrest mounting on tunnel side:
1. Install tunnel-side backrest strut.

Important!
Plastic bushing must not be damaged

2. - Tighten screw hand-tight.

Note:
Tighten down stud and screw only after mounting backrest on both sides.
Tightening torque:
- Stud on door side: 52 10 08AZ 52 10 Front Seats.
- Screw on tunnel side: 52 10 07AZ 52 10 Front Seats.





Installation:
Install toothed segment cover (1).
Make sure Bowden cable is in correct position along spacer
Assemble LVK module and front seat.
