SUBJECT
Creaking Noise from the B-pillar
MODEL
F07 (5 Series Gran Turismo)
SITUATION
A creaking noise can be heard from the left or right B-pillar when driving on rough roads.
CAUSE
Slight movement between the two overlapping metal pieces of the B-pillar
PROCEDURE
Confirm the creaking noise is coming from the B-pillar area by driving on rough roads, and then proceed to the next step.
1. Using Repair Instructions 51 43 150, remove the B-pillar trim pieces from the affected side. Shown is the drivers side.
2. The area to be modified is where the two metal pieces of the B-pillar overlap.
3. The view from the top shows the gap which may be the source of the creaking.
4. Insert a narrow screwdriver into the gap and gently pry outward to increase the gap, but no more than 0.3mm. Road test the vehicle to confirm the creak is eliminated.
5. 5. Once the creak has been eliminated, fill the cavity with seam sealer and work it into the cavity to prevent future corrosion and sheet metal movement. Install the removed trim parts in the reverse order of their removal.
