SUBJECT
CC Message: Battery Discharged
MODEL
F10 (5 Series)
SITUATION
The Check Control displays various messages concerning the battery (e.g., Power Supply!, Check!, Battery heavily discharged). Fault code 213B08 (Power Management, battery-state detection: battery fault) is stored in the DME (Digital Engine Electronics) control module. The fault is stored only very intermittently.
CAUSE
DME software
PROCEDURE
When testing with ISTA D2.20, and if FC 213B08 is the only power management fault, the fault can be ignored (the battery must not be replaced). In this case, the fault code can only be deleted by reregistering the battery. Register a battery replacement two times, leaving a minimum of 20 seconds between each registration. Recharge the battery if necessary.
When testing with ISTA D2.20, and if FC 213B08 is stored together with other power management faults, perform energy diagnosis to diagnose the root cause of the problem. To find out if the battery must be replaced, submit a PuMA case with FC 213B08 in the subject line. The battery state of health will be checked in the transmitted FASTA data, and you will be advised whether to replace the battery or not. If no battery replacement is necessary, register a battery replacement two times, leaving a minimum of 20 seconds between each registration. Recharge the battery if necessary.
When testing with ISTA D2.2T, a change has been made in the test module that automatically takes account of this fault code. Follow the instructions in the test module.
Corrected DME software is expected in ISTA/P 2.39 in approximately September 2010.
