16 14 200 Removing And Installing Or Replacing Fuel Pump
Special tools required:
Recycling
Fuel escapes when fuel lines are detached. Have a suitable collecting vessel ready.
Catch and dispose of escaping fuel.
Observe country-specific waste disposal regulations.
IMPORTANT:
Ensure adequate ventilation in the workbay.
Avoid skin contact (wear gloves).
Ensure absolute cleanliness when working on the open fuel system. Dirt contamination in the fuel tank can impair driving operation or may even result in vehicle breakdown.
Necessary preliminary work:
- Draw off fuel
- Remove rear seat bench
Fold both floor trims (1) to the side.
Unfasten screws (2).
Remove cover for service opening (3).
Disconnect connector connection (1).
Disconnect fuel line (2).
If necessary, disconnect fuel line for auxiliary heating.
Installation note:
Check gasket (3), replace if necessary.
Fit special tool 16 1 190 with wide crank web (1) towards rear onto locking ring (2).
Connect special tool 33 5 070 to 1/2 inch reversible ratchet head (3) and position on special tool 16 1 190.
Release locking ring (2) in counterclockwise direction.
Disconnect connector connection (1).
Pull out pressure regulator (1) upwards in direction of arrow.
Feed out hose pipe (2) from fuel tank with pressure line.
Installation note:
Make sure hose pipe is correctly installed.
Unlock and detach quick-connect couplings (1).
Installation note:
Make sure quick-release fasteners are correctly latched.
Press tabs (2) outward in direction of arrow and remove fuel pump (3) in upward direction.
Installation note:
Make sure installation position of the lower fine screen on the fuel pump in the surge tank is correct.
Make sure fuel pump is correctly latched in the surge tank.
