Fault text
Crankshaft - exhaust camshaft 2, synchronization: camshaft
signal outside limit value
Fault description
The diagnostic function monitors mutual synchronization of
exhaust camshaft position sensor 2 and the crankshaft sensor
when the engine is started.
Condition for fault identification
Test condition:
A fault is recognized when it is not possible to determine the
precise crankshaft position based on the signals from the
two sensors.
Potential problem source(s):
- Electromagnetic interference
- Defective wiring harness
- Exhaust camshaft sensor 2 defective
- VANOS is defective
Terminal condition: none
Voltage condition:
- None
Temperature condition:
- None
Time condition:
- None
Other conditions:
- Engine on
Condition for fault memory entry
This fault is logged in the control module's fault memory
immediately.
Action in service
- Check wiring harness
- Check VANOS
- Replace sensor
Fault effect and breakdown warning
Breakdown notice:
- none
Possible apparent symptoms:
- Reduced performance
- Poor starting characteristics
- Engine can stall
Driver information
Warning light:
- ECE emissions warning lamp: off
- US emissions warning lamp: off
- ECE electronic engine power reduction: on
- US electronic engine power reduction: on
- CC message: none
Service instruction
- Synchronization starts with exhaust camshaft sensor 2. If
this is not successful the process continues with the exhaust
camshaft sensor (1). If this is also unsuccessful then the
process continues with intake camshaft sensor 2. If this is
also unsuccessful then the process continues with exhaust
camshaft sensor 1. Reflecting this, the diagnostic fault codes
are also logged in this sequence.
