Alternator, electric: malfunction
Fault description
The diagnostic function monitors whether the alternator is
supplying power.
Condition for fault identification
Test condition:
This fault is recognized by complex self-diagnosis routines.
Potential problem source(s):
- Positive wire not correctly connected to battery
- Ground not correctly connected
- Defective regulator
- Alternator defect
Terminal condition: none
Voltage condition:
- Alternator specified voltage one time for at least 5 sec.:
exceeds electrical system voltage + 1.0 V or greater than 14
V
Temperature condition:
- None
Time condition:
- 10 sec.
Other conditions:
- Engine on
- Alternator not fully loaded
- No diagnostic fault codes stored for alternator
Condition for fault memory entry
This fault is logged in the control module's fault memory if
it remains present for longer than 25.5 sec.
Action in service
- Check positive wire for correct installation
- Check ground wire for correct installation
- Check alternator
- Fault frequency = 1: If the IMIB is available, perform an
alternator test / If no IMIB is available, delete stored fault
codes from control module fault memory and do not
perform any other actions Fault frequency > 1: Replace
alternator

- none
Possible apparent symptoms:
- Charge indicator lamp lights up
- Breakdown in extreme cases

- CC message: on
