Fault text
Ambient-temperature sensor, plausibility: signal implausible

Fault description
Following engine start after a period of at least ten hours
with the engine off the diagnostic function monitors the
ambient temperature by running a plausibility check against
the charge-air temperature (on engine-intake side of the
intercooler) and the engine temperature.

Condition for fault identification
Test condition:
The fault is recognized when the ambient temperature
deviates from boost-air temperature and engine temperature
by more than 20 °C.
Potential problem source(s):
- Outside temperature sensor defective
- Tampering with wiring harness
Terminal condition: none
Voltage condition:
- Electrical system voltage > 10 V
Temperature condition:
- Coolant temperature > -10 °C
Time condition:
- Engine off for longer than 10 hours
Other conditions:
- Engine on

Condition for fault memory entry
This fault is logged in the control module's fault memory
immediately.

Action in service
- Read out outside temperature and assess plausibility
- Determine whether situations as indicated in "Notice" have
been present
- Visual inspection of outside temperature sensor
- Check wiring harness for tampering
- Replace outside temperature sensor

Fault effect and breakdown warning
Breakdown notice:
- none
Possible apparent symptoms:
- none

Driver information
Warning light:
- ECE emissions warning lamp: off
- US emissions warning lamp: on
- ECE electronic engine power reduction: off
- US electronic engine power reduction: off
- CC message: none

Service instruction
- The following conditions can lead to an incorrect
diagnosis:
- Battery change or defective battery
- Engine heated by secondary source, such as auxiliary
heater
