Fault text
Tank fill level, plausibility: implausible in relation to
consumption value
Fault description
The diagnostic function monitors whether the fuel quantity
extracted from the tank corresponds to the injected fuel
quantity.
Condition for fault identification
Test condition:
The diagnostic fault code is logged when the fuel level
calculated by the DME deviates too starkly from the
instrument cluster's fuel level.
Potential problem source(s):
- Defective fuel-level sensor
- Frequent refueling with quantities of less than 5 liters (as
with rental vehicles)
Terminal condition: none
Voltage condition:
- None
Temperature condition:
- None
Time condition:
- 21 sec. after Terminal 15 on
Other conditions:
- Engine on
- No fault related to tank fuel-level sensor is currently
present
- At least 20 liters of fuel must be consumed without
refueling (multiple cycles possible)
Condition for fault memory entry
This fault is logged in the control module's fault memory
immediately.
Action in service
- Collateral fault when diagnostic fault codes for fuel level
sensor are logged
- Ask customer if less than 5 liters of fuel has been added a
number of times
- Fill tank and determine how the fuel gauge responds,
conduct fault diagnosis in "Fuel gauge."
Fault effect and breakdown warning
Breakdown notice:
- Refuel
Possible apparent symptoms:
- If the fuel-level sensor is defective then the gauge reading
will not reflect the actual amount of fuel in the tank and a
vehicle breakdown can result.
