Fault text
Throttle valve 2: emergency running position not adapted

Fault description
The diagnostic function monitors the throttle valve
adaptation.

Condition for fault identification
Test condition:
The fault is recognized when the voltage values for the two
throttle valve sensors are not within the valid range for the
emergency-air position while an activation signal is not
being applied ( Sensor 1: 0.74 V +/- 0.3 V; Sensor 2: 4.26 V
+/- 0.3 V)
Potential problem source(s):
- Operation of throttle valve 2 impaired by
dirt/contamination
- Throttle valve 2 defective
Terminal condition: Terminal 15
Voltage condition:
- Electrical system voltage > 10 V
Temperature condition:
- Intake air temperature > -10 °C
- Coolant temperature > -10 °C
- Coolant temperature < 142 °C
Time condition:
- 5 sec.
Other conditions:
- Engine off
- No other throttle valve diagnostic fault codes logged in
control module fault memory

Condition for fault memory entry
This fault is logged in the control module's fault memory
immediately.

Action in service
- Inspect throttle valve 2 for contamination
- Replace throttle valve 2

Fault effect and breakdown warning
Breakdown notice:
- The engine reverts to its limp-home program, continued
vehicle operation is possible but drivability is restricted,
because power is reduced the driver should refrain from
passing maneuvers.
Possible apparent symptoms:
- Power reduction
- Engine speed governed

Driver information
Warning light:
- ECE emissions warning lamp: on
- US emissions warning lamp: on
- ECE electronic engine power reduction: on
- US electronic engine power reduction: on
- CC message: on

Service instruction
- Throttle valve adaptation is triggered following
replacement of throttle valve or DME
