Alternator, plausibility, temperature: overtemperature
calculated
Fault description
The diagnostic function monitors the alternator temperature.
Condition for fault identification
Test condition:
This fault is recognized by complex self-diagnosis routines.
Potential problem source(s):
- Alternator dirty
- Airflow to alternator obstructed
- Thermal overload from unfavorable driving profile
possible
Terminal condition: none
Voltage condition:
- Alternator specified voltage one time for at least 5 sec.:
exceeds electrical system voltage + 1.0 V or greater than 14
V
Temperature condition:
- None
Time condition:
- 10 sec.
Other conditions:
- Engine on
- Alternator not fully loaded
- No diagnostic fault codes stored for alternator
Condition for fault memory entry
This fault is logged in the control module's fault memory if
it remains present for longer than 25.5 sec.
Action in service
- Inspect alternator for unobstructed air current
- If the IMIB is available, perform an alternator test
- If no IMIB is available, delete stored fault codes from
control module fault memory and take no further action
Fault effect and breakdown warning
Breakdown notice:
- none
Possible apparent symptoms:
- Reduction in availability of comfort and convenience
accessories
Driver information
Warning light:
- ECE emissions warning lamp: off
- US emissions warning lamp: off
- ECE electronic engine power reduction: off
- US electronic engine power reduction: off
- CC message: none
Service instruction
- If no other faults related to the alternator have been logged,
do not replace the alternator. This diagnostic fault code only
