Interior - Driver Side Instrument Panel Creak Or Crack Noise

SUBJECT
The Driver's Side Instrument Panel Creaks

MODEL
F01, F02 (7 Series)

From start of production to May 14, 2012

SITUATION
When telescoped, the steering wheel in and out electrically, a creaking or cracking noise may be heard from the steering column.

CAUSE
The lower steering column trim panel and the drivers side lower footwell trim panel are rubbing against each other, creating the noise.

PROCEDURE





1. Follow Repair Instructions 32 31 003 to remove the upper section of the steering column trim panel.

2. Then follow Repair Instructions 32 31 003 to remove the lower section of the steering column trim panel.

3. With the lower steering column trim panel removed, locate the two lower corner ends of the trim panel that make contact with the lower footwell trim panel. Apply Universal protecting spray to these two areas.

4. Reassemble the removed parts.





5. Perform a quality check of the repair by operating the power telescoping function of the steering wheel to ensure the noise has been eliminated.
