Collision Warning System Limits

Collision Warning System Limits

Collision warning system limits
Because the collision warning is realized using the KAFAS camera, the function of the collision warning may be limited in the event of major obstructions in the field of vision of this camera. The collision warning will then switch to an emergency program that only ensures limited function.

Possible causes for the emergency program of the collision warning:
- Heavy rain
- Heavy snowfall
- Thick fog
- Spray from the vehicle driving ahead in the event of water or snow on the roadway
- Covered windscreen in the area of the KAFAS camera:
- Fogging
- Icing
- Rock slide
- Oily film, e.g. due to poor wipers
- Label, leaf, fly in front of KAFAS camera
- Blinding light due to sunset from the front

To prevent frequent switching from emergency program to normal operation, there are waiting periods to change the status of the collision warning again. Therefore the status of the collision warning often does not switch at the same time that the causes above occur. If the collision warning switches from normal operation to the emergency program, the driver will be notified that the availability of this function is now limited. The driver is not actively notified regarding a switch back to normal operation.
