64 52 523 Removing And Installing/Replacing A/C System Compressor (N63, X Drive)
Special tools required:
WARNING:
Danger of injury.
Refrigerant circuit is under high pressure.
Avoid contact with refrigerant and refrigerant fluid.
Read and comply with safety information:
- Handling R 134a (tetrafluorethane) refrigerant
- Handling refrigerant fluid
IMPORTANT:
Risk of damage.
Restart engine only when air conditioning system has been correctly filled.
Read and comply with notes on compressor replacement.
Follow instructions for opening and replacing parts in refrigerant circuit.
If air conditioning system is opened for more than 24 hours:
Replace desiccant insert for air conditioning.
Necessary preliminary work:
- Drain off air conditioning system
- Remove air conditioning compressor drive belt
- Secure engine in installation position
- Lower front axle support
- Lower the anti-roll bar (do not remove completely.)
As shown, protect the cooling fins (1) with suitable material (2) (e.g. aluminium sheet) for the following operations.
Release screw (2).
Tightening torque 64 53 7AZ.
Take the refrigerant line (1) off the connecting piece (3).
NOTE: Refrigerant line (1) is fed out together with compressor.
Release screw (1).
Tightening torque 64 53 3AZ.
Take the refrigerant line (2) of the condenser.
NOTE: Position refrigerant line (2) in direction of arrow.
This work step eases pivoting the compressor for removal of refrigerant lines.
Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect.
Release screw (3) (see next operation).
Unfasten screws (2).
Tightening torque 64 52 3AZ.
Take off holder (4).
IMPORTANT: Seal openings or lines on compressor with special tool 32 1 270 to prevent escape of media and dirt contamination.
Secure compressor (1) against falling out.
Take compressor (1) off the crankcase and turn downwards slightly.
Release screw in the marked area at refrigerant line (2).
Tightening torque 64 52 1AZ.
Remove refrigerant line (2).
Installation note:
Replace sealing rings.
Use special tool 00 9 030 to mount sealing rings without damaging them.
Feed out compressor (1) downwards as pictured.
Installation note:
Feed in the refrigerant line (2) first, then the compressor (1)
As shown, feed in the refrigerant line (2) upwards via line (3).
Secure the refrigerant line (2) on the compressor.
Tightening torque 64 52 1AZ.
Secure the compressor.
Tightening torque 64 52 3AZ.
Replacement:
Release screw (1).
Tightening torque 64 52 1AZ.
Remove refrigerant line (2).
Installation note:
Replace sealing rings.
Use special tool 00 9 030 to mount sealing rings without damaging them.
After installation:
- Evacuate and fill air conditioning
