SUBJECT
F25 N52T - Oil Level Sensor Malfunction Warning Is Displayed
MODEL
F25 [NEW] (X3 xDrive28i) with the N52T engine produced from 11/1/2010 to 5/12/2011
SITUATION
The Check Control message "Oil Level Sensor Malfunction" is erroneously displayed; however, there is no oil level sensor (QLT) related fault shown in ISTA/D.
This problem mainly occurs during colder months in conjunction with short distance driving.
Other symptoms might include:
^ Oil level cannot be calculated and displayed
^ CBS forecast for the engine oil service is reduced
The DME fault 1C5008: Oil level sensor permittivity has occurred and can be seen in FASTA data.
This permittivity fault is set if, aggravated by frequent short-distance driving, increased water content from the combustion process enters the engine oil and QLT sensor.
CAUSE
DME software application
CORRECTION
Do not replace the QLT sensor.
[NEW] Program the vehicle using only ISTA/P 2.41.3 or later.
[NEW] Vehicle integration (new): F025-11-03-510 or later
[NEW] Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.

Verify that the oil level is correct and displayed properly.
