Basic Instrument Cluster: Display Is Intermittently Inoperative

Produced to July 2012 without option 6WA (Instrument cluster with enhanced functions)

SITUATION
The display in the basic instrument cluster is intermittently inoperative.

The following fault codes are stored in the instrument cluster:

^ B7F6B4 "Instrument cluster: Error in the display unit when switching off (NO SIGNAL)" and/or

^ B7F6AA "Display switch-off error when starting up"

CAUSE
Software error in the instrument cluster

CORRECTION
Do not replace parts for this issue.

1. Perform a vehicle test using the latest ISTA (Integrated Service Technical Application) diagnostic software. Complete all test modules related to the instrument cluster.

Note:
When the ISTA system message displays: Battery voltage only "XX.XX" V. Please connect charger. Please note the displayed battery voltage reading in the repair order comments section. This documentation is not necessary when part of an approved Technical Service repair procedure; the battery charger is required to be attached before performing the Vehicle Test.

2. Reprogram the vehicle using ISTA/P 2.48.2 or later.

F30 vehicles - New integration level: F020-12-11-504 or higher

F25 vehicles - New integration level: F025-12-07-509 or higher

Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.
