61 35 196 Removing and installing (replacing) control unit for automatic operation of tailgate system







IMPORTANT: Read and comply with notes on protection against electrostatic damage (ESD protection).







Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Disconnect negative battery cable
- Remove flap in right luggage compartment wheel arch trim panel.







Unlock plug connections (1) and disconnect.
Unfasten screws (2).
Remove control unit (3).







Replacement:
Carry out vehicle programming/encoding.







NOTE:
From 03/2011, the control unit is installed with a different placement of connector chambers:
(1) Control unit to 03/2011
(2) Control unit from 03/2011

Replacement:
When control unit (2) is installed in vehicles with a production date up to 03/2011, the wiring harness (3) must be retightened.

NOTE: Wiring harness length may vary dependent on the vehicle. If necessary, additional vehicle-specific work can be necessary.

Necessary preliminary tasks:
- If optional equipment installed: Remove Automatic Soft Close drive
- Remove battery







Release clip (1). Release adhesive tape (2) from wiring harness mounting (3). Retighten wiring harness in direction of the arrow until connector can be securely locked. Then secure wiring harness with adhesive tape to wiring harness mounting (3). Adapt clip (1) to new length and secure.

IMPORTANT: Wiring harness may not be tensioned too tightly.
