Risk of damage to tailgate.
The set value for the opening angle is stored in the control unit for automatic rear lid actuation. Therefore, when the control unit for automatic rear lid actuation is replaced, this value is lost and must be reset.
Before starting work, read out and make a note of the set value for the opening angle (refer to Owner's Handbook). If the set value can not be read out (control unit for automatic rear lid actuation faulty), the customer must be informed of this situation.

- E72 only: Disconnect both battery earth cables
- Remove storage compartment in luggage compartment on right

Disconnect plug connection (1).

- Learn end stops for tailgate:
1. Lower end stop: Close rear lid (lower end stop is determined when the rear lid contact of the rear lock changes from open to closed)
2. Upper end stop: Tailgate must be fully opened up to limit position.

NOTE: From 03/2011, the control unit is installed with a different placement of connector chambers:

1. Control unit to 03/2011
2. Control unit from 03/2011

Replacement:

NOTE: Wiring harness length may vary dependent on the vehicle.

Undo a piece of the adhesive tape (4) if required. Retighten wiring harness (3) and secure to position (5) if required.
