63 12 015 Removing And Installing/replacing Left (Or Right) Headlight (Adaptive Headlight)
Special tools required:
WARNING:
Version with xenon headlights: Danger to life due to high voltage! Therefore, before removing, disconnect all components from the power supply (lighting system and ignition off).
Work on the entire xenon lighting system (control unit, ignition unit with bulb) may only be carried out by specialist personnel.
Follow instructions for handling light bulbs (exterior lights).
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Removing front wheel arch cover (front section)
Right headlight:
Release nut (1) and remove holder (2) with relay for deactivating electric fan from wheel arch (3).
Installation:
Guide lug (4) of holder (2) must be positioned in associated bore in wheel arch (3).
IMPORTANT:
Risk of damage.
Carry out the following operations with care so as to avoid damaging the side panel, headlight, wiring harness and fluid reservoir for windscreen washer system.
Disconnect plug connection (1).
Release wiring harness (2) in area (A) of wheel arch, lay to one side and secure.
Release screw (5). Tightening torque 63 12 2AZ.
Release screws (3). Tightening torque 63 12 1AZ.
Pull headlight (4) forward slightly in direction of arrow.
Release screws (1). Tightening torque 41 35 4AZ.
Raise side panel slightly with special tool 00 9 317 in area (A).
Installation:
Observe gap dimensions.
Feed out headlight (1) in direction of arrow.
Installation:
- Before aligning headlight, remove special tool 00 9 317 and secure side panel
- Position headlight guides exactly on side panel
- Adjust headlight in accordance with gap dimensions by means of adjusting elements (4) to body
- Adjust headlights
Replacement:
- Remove ignition unit/bulb for xenon headlight
- Remove control unit for xenon headlights
- Remove drive/electronics box for adaptive headlight
- If necessary, remove bulbs.
