SUBJECT
Service Action: Perform Complete Vehicle Coding of the Convertible Top Module (CTM)

MODEL
E89 (Z4) produced [NEW] February 2009 through April 2011

SITUATION

The roof can be opened or closed at speeds of up to 19mph (30 km/h) instead of 5 mph (7 km/h). At the higher speeds mentioned above, the roof mechanism may be damaged by the air stream.

CAUSE

There are errors in the coding data for the Convertible Top Module (CTM).

CORRECTION

Perform complete vehicle coding using ISTA/P (Integrated Service Technical Application Programming) 2.41.3 or higher.

For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to CenterNet / Aftersales / Aftersales Business Development & Marketing Portal / Service Operations / Workshop Technology.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves Z4 models which were produced from [NEW] February 2009 through April 2011.

In order to determine whether a specific vehicle has had this Service Action completed or is affected by this Service Action, first check the B-pillar label for code number 592. If code number 592 has been punched out, the campaign has already been performed. If code number 592 has not been punched out, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.

PROCEDURE

^ Connect the battery charger to the vehicle.

^ Start a new ISTA/P programming session.

^ Determine the measures plan and add complete vehicle coding to the measures plan.

^ Accept and complete the measures plan.

^ Perform all post-programming work as recommended by the "Final report".

^ Perform a vehicle test using ISTA (Integrated Service Technical Application) and clear all fault memory.

LABEL INSTRUCTIONS

This Service Action has been assigned code number 592. After the vehicle has been checked and/or corrected, obtain a label (SD 92-395) and:

A. Emboss your BMW center warranty number in the middle of the label (1);

B. Punch out code number 592 (2), printed on the label; and

C. Affix the label to the B-pillar as shown.

If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one, because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
