Convertible Top Canvas: Service and Repair



54 34 120 Replacing soft top fabric







Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Partially remove rear left and right gasket. (Only remove gasket from rear gasket support. Screw connection to fin must not be loosened.)
- Remove dust seal on left and right







WARNING:
Soft top becomes pressureless without a warning signal.
For all repair work, secure soft top with a suitable support tool against collapsing.
Ensure soft top is supported in the middle.
Ignition must remain switched off during the repair work.
Failure to comply with this instruction may result in the hydraulic valves incurring preliminary damage.







Undo screws (1) on headlining roof tip on left and right.
Tightening torque 54 34 14AZ.







Pull roofliner clamping profile (1) out of roof tip channel (2).

Installation note:
Remove all clamps from roof tip channel (2).
Pay attention to centre markings on roofliner clamping profile (1) and roof tip channel (2).







Procedure for bow at rear, centre and front:

IMPORTANT: Headlining screwed with washers. When dismantling, take care to avoid falling washers.

Release screws (1).
Tightening torque 54 34 15AZ.

Installation note:
Secure headlining with washers. Washers are located between headlining and bow.
Press headlining down when fastening screwed connection.







Procedure for bow at rear, centre and front:
Detach soft top fabric tightening strip (1) from bow.

Installation note:
Remove adhesive residue from bow.
Affix soft top cover tightening strip (1) with soft top closed.
In the case of a new soft top cover, pull off protective film from bonding surface. During re-installation, secure soft top cover tightening strip (1) with double-sided adhesive tape.
Pull soft top cover tightening strip (1) tight and affix to bow from centre outwards.







Release screws.

Installation note:
Tightening torque 54 34 12AZ.
Observe tightening sequence (1-5).
Insert screws with Loctite.
Adjust cowl panel gasket.
Remove cowl panel gasket with clamping strip.
Detach cowl panel gasket from clamping strip.







Lever out soft top cover at front from soft top frame.







Detach tension cable (1) from soft top frame (2).







Release rivet connections (1) from soft top cover section (2) on gasket rail at rear.

IMPORTANT: Completely remove rivet residue.







Pull back protective cover (1) from tension spring (2).
Detach tension spring (2) and remove from soft top linkage with tension cable (3).

Installation note:
Tension spring (2) must lie evenly against soft top linkage. Attach tension spring (2) accordingly on left and right.
Ensure protective cover is correctly positioned. Risk of damage due to friction between soft top cover and tension spring.







Support soft top compartment lid in service position







Pull soft top cover section (1) from rear gasket (2).

Installation note:
Push excess material from soft top cover (4) under fin (3).







Bore out rivet connections (1) from soft top cover (2) on fin (3).
Pull out soft top cover (2) from fin clamping profile (3).

IMPORTANT:
Pull all clamps from fin clamping profile (3).
Completely remove rivet residue.
Risk of damage to body or gasket:
Make sure there are no parts protruding from rivet. Rivet shank must be correctly torn off.







Unscrew nuts (1).
Remove soft top cover with threaded rods from soft top frame with an upward motion.
Tightening torque 54 34 16AZ.







Pull soft top cover section (1) from rear window frame (2).
Remove soft top fabric.

IMPORTANT: Pull all clamps from rear window frame (2).

Installation note:
Fit soft top cover (1) from outside to inside.
Ensure soft top cover (1) is properly secured in rear window frame (2).







Installation note:
Check new soft top cover for damage prior to installation.
Carry out function check.
