54 34 101 Removing and installing complete soft top
Special tools required:
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove side trim panel, rear left and right
- Remove outer window cavity cover strip
- Remove convertible top compartment lid
- Remove kinematics box
- Prepare special tool lifting gear
Remove connecting bracket on the left and right.
Release screws in marked area.
Tightening torque 51 37 05AZ.
Before removing convertible top, mark position of main bearing in relation to body.
When installing convertible top, align main bearing to markings.
Measure distance between retaining plate and main bearing for convertible top on left and right and if necessary carry over measurement to new convertible top.
This roughly determines the longitudinal adjustment.
Installation note:
If necessary, adjust distance for longitudinal alignment of convertible top.
Check gap dimensions.
Lock threaded pin with internal Torx and release nuts.
Tightening torque 54 34 11AZ.
NOTE: The right side is removed in the same way as the left side.
Unclip cable clips (1) on left and right.
Release screws (2) on left and right.
Tightening torque 54 34 10AZ.
Unclip cable clips on left and right.
Stow convertible top with assistance of a second person uniformly in convertible soft top compartment.
Release left and right screws (1).
Tightening torque 54 34 10AZ.
Right side:
Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect.
Special tool lifting gear
NOTE:
Carry out this part of the work with the assistance of two other persons.
Set special tool 54 3 110 up with supports.
To lift out the convertible top uniformly, make sure the special tool is aligned parallel to the convertible top.
If necessary, adjust the height via the left and right threaded rods.
See Adjusting special tool lifting gear.
Generously tape off working area with fabric adhesive tape (1).
Connect shackle left and right with soft top linkage.
Attach hook left and right in shackle.
Check that supports and hook are securely seated.
Carefully lift out convertible top with lifting apparatus.
Measure and note down adjustment depth of all castle nuts.
Replacement:
Carry over adjustment depth of all castle nuts to new convertible top.
On reinstallation:
Check adjustment depth prior to installation.
After body repair work:
Adjust convertible top.
Installation note:
Observe installation of kinematics box.
Teach-in soft top:
1. Close soft top.
2. Only in vehicles built before 09/2011: Briefly release the lock button (less than 5 seconds).
3. Operate closing button for 30 seconds (until LED flashes - LED flashes to indicate that the teach-in procedure is complete)
4. Release closing button.
Carry out function check.
Check gap dimensions.
