54 34 130 Removing and installing/replacing headlining in soft top
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove cowl panel trim
WARNING:
Soft top becomes pressureless without a warning signal.
For all repair work, secure soft top with a suitable support tool against collapsing.
Ensure soft top is supported in the middle.
Ignition must remain switched off during the repair work.
Failure to comply with this instruction may result in the hydraulic valves incurring preliminary damage.
Undo screws (1) on headlining roof tip on left and right.
Tightening torque 54 34 14AZ.
Pull roofliner clamping profile (1) out of roof tip channel (2).
Installation note:
Remove all clamps from roof tip channel (2).
Pay attention to centre markings on roofliner clamping profile (1) and roof tip channel (2).
Procedure for bow, centre and front:
IMPORTANT: Headlining screwed with washer. When dismantling, take care to avoid falling washers.
Release screws (1).
Tightening torque 54 34 15AZ.
Installation note:
Secure headlining with washers. Washers are located between headlining and bow.
Press headlining down when fastening screwed connection.
Support soft top compartment lid in service position

Installation note:
Observe overview of tension cable routing.
Unscrew screw (1) from traction cable (S1) on soft top frame main bearing (2).
Tightening torque 54 34 17AZ.
Unscrew screw (1) from traction cable (S1) on soft top frame main pillar (2).
Tightening torque 54 34 18AZ.
Installation note:
Screw guide lug of traction cable (S1) to be aligned with soft top frame main pillar (2).
Undo screws (1) of traction cable (S1) on soft top frame main pillar at top and bottom (2).
Tightening torque 54 34 18AZ.
Installation note:
Route traction cable (S1) along soft top frame main pillar (2).
Screw guide lug (4) of traction cable (S1) downwards in 45° position.
Screw guide lug (5) of traction cable (S2) in horizontal position.
Unscrew screw (1) from cable mount (S6) on soft top frame main strut (2).
Tightening torque 54 34 19AZ.
Installation note:
Secure screw (1) with Loctite.
Cable mount (S6) must run behind control cable for cable mount, long (S4).
Unscrew screw (1) of control cable for cable mount, long (S4) on soft top frame main strut (2).
Tightening torque 54 34 20AZ.
Installation note:
Control cable for cable mount, long (S4) must run in front of cable mount (S6).
Unscrew screw (1) of control cable for cable mount, long (S4) on soft top frame roof strut (2).
Tightening torque 54 34 20AZ.
Installation note:
Route control cable for cable mount (S4) under cable mount (S6).
Unscrew screw (1) from guide lug of cable mount (S6) on soft top frame top tensioning rod (2).
Tightening torque 54 34 19AZ.
Undo screw (1) from mounting for control cable, long, (S2) on top strut of outer soft top frame (2).
Tightening torque 54 34 21AZ.
Unscrew screw (1) from rubber band (G1) on soft top frame strut (2).
Tightening torque 54 34 22AZ.
Undo screw (1) from guide lug (2) of cable mount (S6) and guide lug (3) of control cable, long (S2) on top strut of soft top frame.
Tightening torque 54 34 23AZ.
Installation note:
Observe correct sequence when screwing guide lugs on top strut of soft top frame (from top strut of soft top frame):
1. Guide lug (3) of control cable, long (S2).
2. Guide lug (2) of cable mount (S6)
Control cable, long (S2) must run between top strut of soft top frame (4) and control cable for cable mount (S5).
Undo screw (1) from control cable for cable mount, short (S5) on top strut of soft top frame.
Tightening torque 54 34 24AZ.
Feed control cable for cable mount, short (S5) through tab of tensioning strap (3) and outer guide lug (2) of control cable, long (S2).
Installation note:
Control cable for cable mount, short (S5) must run between top strut of soft top frame and guide lug of top strut of soft top frame (4).
Unscrew screws (1) from control cable, short (S3) on soft top frame main pillar (2).
Tightening torque 54 34 25AZ.
Undo screws (1) from control cable, long (S2) on bow in centre (2).
Tightening torque 54 34 26AZ.
Installation note:
Straight sides of guide lugs for control cable, long (S2) must touch bow (2).
Pull entire control cable, long (S2) through slot in tensioning strap (1).
Work step for rear bow:
IMPORTANT: Headlining screwed with washers. When dismantling, take care to avoid falling washers.
Release screws (1).
Tightening torque 54 34 15AZ.
Installation note:
Secure headlining with washers. Washers are located between headlining and bow.
Press headlining down when fastening screwed connection.
Pull out welt of headlining (1) from soft top frame.
Installation note:
Remove all clamps from soft top frame.
Ensure that clamps on headlining section are properly secured.
Fit headlining at sides first, then at top of soft top frame.
Carefully hit headlining in soft top frame.
Remove headlining from vehicle.
Installation note:
Check new headlining for damage before installation.
