65 76 625 Removing and installing (replacing) pedestrian protection sensor (optical fibre)







WARNING:
Observe safety instructions for handling gas generators.
Incorrect handling can activate pedestrian protection and cause injury.







IMPORTANT:
- AFGS (active pedestrian protection) procedure after accident







Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove front bumper panel







Release and disconnect pedestrian protection plug connection in area (1).
Detach upper impact absorber (2) from bumper support.

Installation note:
First attach upper impact absorber (2) at the bottom and then press on at the top.







Remove adhesive tape (2) if necessary.
Remove cover (spray guard) (1) on right from upper impact absorber (3).

Installation note:
After installing the new components (spray guard cover and upper impact absorber) they do not need to be secured in position with adhesive tape (1).
Make sure the spray guard cover (1) is fitted correctly on upper impact absorber (3).







Remove optical fibre sensor (1) from upper impact absorber (2).
Dispose of upper impact absorber (2). Upper impact absorber (2) must not be reused.







IMPORTANT:
Before installing upper impact absorber (3) check that pedestrian protection sensor (1) is completely locked in to retaining lugs (2) over the entire length.
Check new upper impact absorber (3) for damage to retaining lugs (4).
Do not install damaged upper impact absorbers (3).
