54 34 340 Removing and installing/replacing cowl panel gasket
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove cowl panel trim
WARNING:
Soft top becomes pressureless without a warning signal.
For all repair work, secure soft top with a suitable support tool against collapsing.
Ensure soft top is supported in the middle.
Ignition must remain switched off during the repair work.
Failure to comply with this instruction may result in the hydraulic valves incurring preliminary damage.
Unbutton cowl panel gasket left and right out of roof frame.
Installation note:
Make sure seal (2) is correctly seated on seal carrier (1).
Spray sealing carrier (1) with assembly fluid.
Release screws.
Installation note:
Observe tightening sequence (1-5).
Tightening torque 54 34 12AZ.
Insert screws with Loctite.
Remove cowl panel gasket with clamping strip.
Detach cowl panel gasket from clamping strip.
Installation note:
Adjust clamping strip (1) to the soft top latch lock striker (2).
Prepare a spacer (3) or use a drill with a corresponding diameter.
A. = 9 mm
Installation note:
Check the transition and offset of the gaskets at the sealing points (1 and 2).
Run a function check.
Check and adjust (if applicable) the setting of the side windows.
Installation note:
The cowl panel gasket (1) must be aligned with the roof frame gasket (2) in the retraction area of the side window.
Distance between gaskets = 0.5 mm.
Side window must run into cowl panel gasket correctly and rest in cowl panel gasket over entire width.
Adjust gasket over spacer plates (see BMW Parts Department).
Installation note:
Adjusting in y-direction:
IMPORTANT:
Do not release both nuts (1,2) at the same time.
Loosen the corresponding nut (1,2) at the rail of the gasket of the centre roof frame. Remove or add the spacer (see BMW Parts Department) and tighten the nut (1,2).
Tightening torque 54 34 29AZ.
Adjusting in z-direction:
IMPORTANT:
Do not release both nuts (1,2) at the same time.
Loosen the corresponding nut (1,2) at the rail of the gasket of the centre roof frame. Position the rail for the centre roof frame gasket and tighten the nut (1,2).
Tightening torque 54 34 29AZ.
