51 37 154 Adjusting Rear Left or Right Side Window
51 37 154 Adjusting rear left or right side window
Special tools required:
NOTE:
Configuring the correct setting will fulfil the following properties:
- Seal against water ingress
- No wind noise
- No rattling
- No unintentional reversing of side windows during closing (anti-trap safety function)
Prerequisites for a correct adjustment of the rear side window:
- Front door window pane setting is correct
- If you are unsure, always perform operations for adjusting the front door window pane beforehand
- Soft top completely open
- Shaft dimension of the rear side window has been set correctly
- Door closed, door window pane and side window in the upper most position
- Inner weather strip on the door window pane and the rear side window have been installed
- Vehicle must stand on its wheels and on an even surface
- Always perform all of the following operations completely
IMPORTANT: When performing measurement and adjustment work, do not slam the door (window pane may shatter).
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove outer weather strip
1. Height and forward/back adjustment, rear side window (soft top open)
1.1. Measurement:
- The height of the upper edge of the door window pane (1) defines the area in the side strip (3) for the height adjustment of the rear side window (2).
- Determine the gap dimension (x) between the edge of the door window pane (1) and the rear door window (2) across the entire length of the window strip (3).
Gap dimension (A) in longitudinal direction
in mm 12± 1
Measured between the edges of the door window pane (1) and the rear side window (2) across the entire length of the window strip (3)
1.2. Setting:
NOTE: Avoid damaging the rear side window (2) and the window cavity with tools.
Undo clip bolts (1) using the special tool 51 3 240 only until it is possible to move the rear side window (2).
Adjust the height and forward/back adjustment of the rear side window (2) to the door window pane by moving.
Fasten the clip bolts (1) using the special tool 51 3 240 and a torque wrench to the calculated, correct torque (MDE).
The basis for the calculation is tightening torque (MDV) 51 37 1AZ
Measure the height and forward/back adjustment of the rear side window (2) again and repeat adjustment procedure, if applicable.
Installation note:
Depending on the torque wrench, the specified tightening torque (MDV) is reduced when using special tool 51 3 240. The torque (MDE) to be set on the torque wrench must be calculated as per the adjacent overview:
2. Preload on rear side window
2.1. Preparations for measurement:
Open door.
Insert special tool 51 0 341 in the opening of the lock and manually lock using a rotary striker.
NOTE: Power window regulator will only move to the end stop via short lift when special tool is inserted.
Align special tool 51 0 341 in the centre of the opening of the lock.
NOTE: Ensure central position of the special tool 51 0 341 during the entire measurement.
Close the door carefully up to the point where the special tool 51 0 341 magnetically adheres to the striker (= defined door opening angle for measurement).
2.2. Measurement:
Determine the preload of the side window (1) to the outer edge of the door window pane (2).
Preload
Dimension in mm 33 ±2
Measured 10 mm below the door window pane (2)
NOTE: The door window glass (2) must rest against the sealing of the side window (1) when the door and door window glass (2) are closed/up.
2.3. Setting:
The preload of the rear side window (2) is adjusted on the knurl (1) and can be set by twisting the special tool 51 2 220.
Check the preload setting, repeat adjustment procedure, if applicable.
3. Final checks:
- Check the closing movement of the windows with closed soft top again:
Especially the closing windows in relation to each other (door window pane closed, close side window). If applicable, correct setting (applies to rear side window only).
- Check the closing movement of the door window panes:
For this purpose, close the door window panes completely using the toll closing function (starting from the bottom end position) and monitor the anti-trap mechanism of the door window pane and the rear side window (reversing the window glass).
- Check the closing movement of the rear side window with the soft top open:
Lower the rear side window completely. Lower the door window pane so that the door window pane is no longer in the insert with sealing system. Completely close the rear side window. In this closing process, the rear side window must not be blocked by the door window pane.
