72 12 060 Removing and installing or replacing left or right head airbag
IMPORTANT:

Improper, unauthorised operations may result in serious dangers.
Unauthorised persons are strictly prohibited from performing any operations on this system.
WARNING:
Read and comply with safety instructions for handling airbag modules and pyrotechnical belt tensioners.
Incorrect handling can activate airbag and cause injury.
A damaged head airbag must be replaced.
A damaged head airbag exhibits an impaired protective function and in extreme cases loses its protective function altogether.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Disconnect negative battery cable
- Remove headlining
- Follow notes for unlocking and locking airbag connector connection
Installation overview, retaining elements, head airbag:
IMPORTANT:
When removing head airbag, do not damage
- Head airbag
- Windscreen
- Retaining clips
- Trim panels
Do not damage.
NOTE:
Within series starting from 05/2010, the screw clips were changed to connector clips.
Depending on version, follow the corresponding instructions.
Version with connector clips:
Press connector clips (1) together and remove.
Release screw (1) on A-pillar.
Tightening torque 72 12 02AZ.
Installation note:
End fitting is coded against incorrect assembly.
Version with screw clips:
Release screw (1).
Tightening torque 72 12 02AZ.
Release screws (1).
Tightening torque 72 12 02AZ.
Release screw (1).
Tightening torque 72 12 02AZ.
Unlock and disconnect plug (1) for gas generator.
Unfasten screws (2).
Tightening torque 72 12 02AZ.
Remove gas generator.
Installation note:
Gas generator is coded against incorrect assembly.
