Technical Service
SUBJECT
Noise from Center Console
MODEL
F01, F02
Produced from July 2011 to June 2012
SITUATION
A chattering noise may be heard from center the console, under the armrest, near the rear air outlet when driving on rough roads.
CAUSE
A retaining screw for the center console is too long.
CORRECTION
Remove and replace the torx screw in the center console.
PROCEDURE
1. Verify the noise is coming from the center console by the rear air outlet.
2. Open both center console door lids. Use a pick or hook tool to grab the rear corner of the rubber insert, and partially peel it upward from the rear as shown. Underneath the insert is the retaining screw (the screwdriver points to the location of the screw).
3. Remove the torx screw (the torx screw is located in a cavity below the center console amongst the wiring harnesses).
Note:
Use a magnetic torx bit to prevent the screw from falling into the cavity.
4. Replace it with the shorter screw, and refit the rubber insert neatly into its original location.
