MODEL

F04 (ActiveHybrid 7)
F07 (5 Series Gran Turismo)
F10 (5 Series)
F12/F13 (6 Series)

Vehicles produced from 8/31/2008

SITUATION
Intermittently, a knocking/pulsating noise can be heard inside the vehicle. The knocking may also be felt in the drivers footwell area.

CAUSE
The opening and closing pulse of the heater water valve is transferred to the body of the vehicle.

PROCEDURE

1. In order to properly diagnose the correct noise, duplicate the issue with the customer.

2. Verify the water valve is the cause of the noise by adjusting the temperature set point on the IHKA (Integrated Heating and Air Conditioning) control panel. Then listen for the noise during the operation of the water valve. It may take between 5-10 seconds for the water valve to start regulating the temperature. Change the temperature setting again and listen for the noise during the water valve operation.

3. After confirming that the cause of the noise is indeed the water valve, proceed with replacing the water valve. Refer to ISTA Repair Instructions "64 11 273 Replace the water valve for the heater."

NOTE:
Only install the replacement part number listed below under "Parts Information" in this Service Information bulletin.

4. If the water valve is not the cause of the noise issue, continue with standard diagnosis as needed.
