SUBJECT

Incorrect Remaining Service Life from CBS Data for Brake Pads

MODEL

F10

F12

F13

F25

Produced from January 2010 through February 2013

SITUATION

The calculated remaining service life for the brake pads (front and/or rear axle) from the CBS data does not match the actual brake pad thickness. The customer notices implausible remaining distances (too high or too low) on the front and/or the rear axle brake system.

CAUSE

Software calculation of the brake pad wear model

CORRECTION

If a yellow "Service due" light is not on, there is no need for action.

Do not undertake any repair work at this time. Do not reset the CBS. (Only in exceptional cases, where the customer does not agree to wait until 03/2013, should a CBS reset and correction be performed using ISTA).

Manual correction of the remaining brake pad thickness or resetting via the tester function will only rectify the fault(s) temporarily. With manual correction, there is a risk that the fault will recur.

A software measure is available with ISTA/P 2.49.0 as of 03/13.
