Collision Avoidance- Backup Camera Self-Calibration Mode

SUBJECT
[NEW] BMW Roundel (Rear) Tilted Open/Rear View Camera Self-Calibration Mode

F12 (6 Series Coupe)
F13 (6 Series Convertible)
[NEW] F06 (6 Series Gran Coupe)

SITUATION
As soon as the engine is started, the BMW roundel on the trunk lid may tilt open to expose the rear view camera lens and perform a self-calibration. This roundel may remain in the open position for up to 5 minutes while this is being performed.

CAUSE
The rear view camera is performing an automatic self-calibration (normal operation).

INFORMATION
Do not replace any parts.

The calibration process does not affect the cameras functionality.

One of the following parameters can initiate an automatic camera calibration:

^ The initial camera calibration was not successfully completed

^ The Park Distance Control (PDC) is manually switched off

^ After selecting the reverse gear

NOTE:
The calibration procedure is automatically repeated until the calibration is completed.

The following parameters must be met for the camera calibration to be successfully completed:

^ Vehicle driven for 5 minutes

^ Vehicle driven on an evenly paved road

^ Vehicle driven in good light conditions for 2 miles

^ Vehicle driven at speeds between 20 to 30 mph

The calibration procedure is cancelled when:

^ The camera is activated by either of the following:

1. Reverse gear is selected

2. Pressing the camera button in the center console

^ Speeds greater than 30 mph or lower than 20 mph

^ Low ambient light conditions

^ Driving periods shorter than 5 mins
