SUBJECT
Service Action: Program Control Units (CAS)
MODEL
F01
F02
F04
F06
F07
F10
F12
F13
F25
SITUATION
After programming/coding the vehicle with ISTA/P 2.48.1 or earlier, the Car Access System (CAS) was incorrectly coded. This causes the anti-theft alarm system panic button on the remote control to not function.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves F01, F02, F04, F06, F07, F10, F12, F13 and F25 vehicles which were produced August 2010 to June 2012.
In order to determine whether a specific vehicle has had this Service Action completed or is affected by this Service Action, first check the B-pillar label for code number 637. If code number 637 has been punched out, the campaign has already been performed. If code number 637 has not been punched out, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.
Important Note:
A campaign can be reserved in ISPA Light as "Pending" prior to submission of a claim. If you find this campaign reserved, please verify the reason before attempting to perform this repair.
CORRECTION
Update the vehicle software using ISTA/P 2.48.2 or later.
PROCEDURE
1. Program the vehicle using ISTA/P 2.48.2 or later.
F01, F02, F04, F06, F07 - Integration level (new): F001-12-11-503
F10, F12, F13 - Integration level (new): F010-12-11-503
F25 - Integration level (new): F025-12-07-509
Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.
2. Complete all of the post-programming work as indicated in the ISTA/P Final Report. This includes performing diagnosis and clearing faults with ISTA, if necessary.
For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to CenterNet / Aftersales Portal / Service / Workshop Technology / Vehicle Programming.
LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
This Service Action has been assigned code number 637. After the vehicle has been checked and/or corrected, obtain a label (SD 92-417)
A. Emboss your BMW center warranty number in the middle of the label (1);
B. Punch out code number 637 (2), printed on the label; and
C. Affix the label to the B-pillar as shown.
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
Note:
When the ISTA system message displays: Battery voltage only "XX.XX" V. Please connect charger. Please note the displayed battery voltage reading in the repair order comments section. This documentation is not necessary when part of an approved Technical Service repair procedure; the battery charger is required to be attached before performing the Vehicle Test.
