51 32 154 Adjusting Left or Right Front Side Window

51 32 154 Adjusting Left Or Right Front Side Window

Special tools required:
- 51 0 341
- 51 0 340
- 51 0 342
- 51 3 300
- 51 3 301
- 51 3 303
- 51 3 304
- 2 304 553
- 51 3 240

Configuring the correct setting will fulfil the following properties:
- Seal against water ingress
- No wind noise
- No rattling
- No unintentional reversing of side windows during closing (anti-trap safety function)

Prerequisites for correct adjustment:
- Vehicle is supported on wheels at ground level
- Front door correctly adjusted to fit
- Vertical dimension of door window pane setting is correct
- Charge battery
(Full operability of the power windows during the adjustment procedure is only assured with an external power supply)

IMPORTANT:
- When closing, the door window glass must not jam on the trim strip in any area of the window (window glass breakage).
- When performing measurement and adjustment work, do not slam the door (window pane may shatter).

Observe the checking and adjustment sequence.
1. Door window glass preload
2. Door window glass retraction depth/longitudinal direction

1 Preload

1.1. Preparation

NOTE: Check preload with fitted weather strip.

Open door; move door window pane into uppermost position, if necessary.
Insert special tool 51 0 341 (from set 51 0 340) in rotary striker of door lock and manually lock rotary striker (short lift activation).
Close door carefully up to the point where special tool51 0 341 magnetically adheres to striker (= defined door opening angle for measurement).
No force must be exerted on the door or door window pane during measurement.

1.2. Preload ideal setting

Bring special tool 51 0 342 (from set 51 0 340) into contact with window guide gasket (1) and door window (2).
Determine dimension for preload between window guide gasket (1) and outer edge of door window (2).

1.3. Adjust preload:

Open door and remove sealing cap on door window frame.
Slacken nut (4) with reversible ratchet (5) of special tool 51 3 300 (consisting of 51 3 301, 51 3 303 and 51 3 304).
Adjusting element (2) for preload is set at bolt (3) and can be adjusted by turning knob (1) of special tool 51 3 300.
Adjust preload and tighten nuts (4).
Tightening torque 51 33 6AZ.
Check adjustment, repeat procedure if necessary.
Remove special tool 51 0 341 from rotary striker of door lock.

2 Retraction depth/longitudinal direction

2.1. Longitudinal direction ideal setting

Close door and door window glass.
Measure distance (x) in area (C and D) from door window glass (1) to B-pillar cover (2) with special tool 51 0 342.

2.2. Retraction depth ideal setting

Open door.
Connect special tool 2 304 553 at points (A) and (B) on door window glass.
Close door.
Measure retraction depth in areas (A and B).

IMPORTANT: Door must open and close without the door window glass touching the roof trim strip (risk of damage).

NOTE: Check play of special tool 2 304 553 to edge of door window pane before each measurement.

To correctly determine the dimension, transfer edge of profile seal (1) with special tool 51 0 342 to scale perpendicular to special tool 2 304 553.

2.3. Adjust retraction depth/longitudinal direction

Remove weather strip on outside of front door (rear).

NOTE: Avoid damaging door window pane (2) and window cavity through tool use.

When configuring setting, ensure that all special tools 2 304 553 continue to touch edge of door window pane without any gaps.
Attach suction hoist (1) to centre of door window glass (2).
Slacken multipoint screw (3) with special tool 51 3 240 only until the door window glass (2) can be moved with little effort with suction hoist (1).

NOTE: Always slacken both multipoint head cap screws to avoid tension in the power window system.

Adjust longitudinal direction and retraction depth (A to D) of door window glass (2).

Installation note:
If special tool 51 3 240 is used, the prescribed tightening torque (MDV) reduces depending on the torque wrench used. The torque (MDE) to be set on the torque wrench must be calculated as per the adjacent overview:

Fasten the multipoint screw (3) using the special tool 51 3 240 and a torque wrench to the calculated, correct torque (MDE).
Relevant basis for calculation, tightening torque (MDV) 51 33 5AZ.

IMPORTANT: Do not release or tighten multipoint head cap screw over inside of door (removed door trim panel; threaded bolt may snap).

Check adjustment, repeat procedure if necessary.

NOTE:
- After completing adjustment work, it is essential to initialize the power windows unit.
- Checking run-in of door window glass:
