Configuring the correct setting will fulfil the following properties:
- Seal against water ingress
- No wind noise
- No rattling
- No unintentional reversing of side windows during closing (anti-trap safety function)
Prerequisites for correct adjustment:
- Vehicle is supported on wheels at ground level
- Rear door correctly adjusted
- Shaft dimension for door window setting is correct
- Charge battery
(Full operability of the power windows during the adjustment procedure is only assured with an external power supply)
IMPORTANT:
- When closing, the door window glass must not jam on the trim strip in any area of the window (window glass breakage).
- When performing measurement and adjustment work, do not slam the door (window pane may shatter).
Observe the checking and adjustment sequence.
1. Preload door window glass, lowering
2. Preload door window glass, fixed
3. Door window glass retraction depth/longitudinal direction, fixed
4. Door window glass retraction depth/longitudinal direction, lowering
1 Preload door window glass, lowering
1.1. Preparation
NOTE: Check preload with fitted weather strip.
Open door; move door window pane into uppermost position, if necessary.
Insert special tool 51 0 370 in rotary striker of door lock and manually lock rotary striker (short lift activation).
Close door carefully up to the point where special tool51 0 370 magnetically adheres to striker (= defined door opening angle for measurement).
No force must be exerted on the door or door window pane during measurement.
1.2. Preload ideal setting
Door window glass (1) must touch gasket (2) in area of B-pillar top.
1.3. Adjust preload
Close door and remove sealing cap on door window frame.
Slacken nut (3) with reversible ratchet (2) of special tool 51 3 300 (consisting of 51 3 301, 51 3 303 and 51 3 304).
Preload is adjusted at bolt (4) and can be adjusted by turning knob (1).
Adjust preload.
Tighten nut (3).
Tightening torque 51 35 7AZ.
Check adjustment, repeat procedure if necessary.
2 Preload door window glass, fixed
2.1. Preparation
NOTE: Check preload with fitted weather strip.
Special tool 51 0 370 must be positioned in rotary striker of door lock.
No force must be exerted on the door or door window glass during measurement.
2.2. Preload ideal setting
Measure dimension (X) with special tool 51 0 342 (from set 51 0 340) in area (A and B) between trim strip (1) and outer edge of door window glass (2).
2.3. Adjust preload
Open door and remove sealing cap on door window frame.
Slacken nut (3) with reversible ratchet (2) of special tool 51 3 300 (consisting of 51 3 301, 51 3 303 and 51 3 304).
Turn knob (1) to twist bolt (4) and adjust preload.
Tighten nut (3).
Tightening torque 51 35 3AZ.
Check adjustment, repeat procedure if necessary.
Remove special tool 51 0 370 from rotary striker of door lock.
3 Door window glass retraction depth/longitudinal direction, fixed
3.1. Retraction depth/longitudinal direction ideal setting
Rear door open.
Connect special tool 2 304 553 to door window in area (A and B) and hold down.
Close rear door and measure retraction depth.
NOTE:
- Check play of special tool 2 304 553 to edge of door window pane before each measurement.
- To correctly determine the dimension, transfer edge of profile seal (1) with special tool 51 0 342 to scale perpendicular to special tool 2 304 553.
3.2. Adjust retraction depth/longitudinal direction
Open door and remove sealing cap on door window frame.
Loosen nut (1).
Tightening torque 51 35 3AZ.
IMPORTANT: Screw (2) only required for setting preload.
Remove outer window cavity cover strip
Fit special tool 51 3 220 to door window glass.
NOTE:
- Avoid damaging door window glass and window cavity through tool use.
- When configuring setting, ensure that all special tools 2 304 553 continue to touch edge of door window pane without any gaps.
Slacken multipoint head cap screw (1) 51 3 240 with special tool until door window glass can just be moved with little effort.
Adjust longitudinal direction and retraction depth of door window glass.
Installation note:
If special tool 51 3 240 is used, the prescribed tightening torque (MDV) reduces depending on the torque wrench used. The torque (MDE) to be set on the torque wrench must be calculated as per the adjacent overview:
Tighten multipoint head cap screw (1) with special tool 51 3 240 to calculated torque to be set .
Relevant basis for calculation, tightening torque (MDV) 51 35 1AZ.
IMPORTANT: Do not release or tighten multipoint head cap screw over inside of door (removed door trim panel; threaded bolt may snap).
Check adjustment, repeat procedure if necessary.
4 Door window glass retraction depth/longitudinal direction, lowering
4.1. Longitudinal direction ideal setting
Close door and door window glass.
Measure distance (x) in area (A and B) from cover B-pillar (1) to rear door window glass (2) with special tool 51 0 342.
4.2. Retraction depth ideal setting
Rear door open.
Connect special tool 2 304 553 at points (A) and (B) on door window glass.
Close rear door.
Measure retraction depth in areas (A and B).
IMPORTANT: Rear door must open and close without the door window glass touching the roof trim strip (risk of damage)
NOTE:
- Check play of special tool 2 304 553 to edge of door window pane before each measurement.
- To correctly determine the dimension, transfer edge of profile seal (1) with special tool 51 0 342 to scale perpendicular to special tool 2 304 553.
4.3. Adjust retraction depth/longitudinal direction
Remove outer window cavity cover strip
NOTE:
- Avoid damaging door window pane (1) and window cavity through tool use.
- When configuring setting, ensure that all special tools 2 304 553 continue to touch edge of door window pane without any gaps.
Slacken multipoint head cap screw (1) with special tool 51 3 240 until movement is possible with little effort.
NOTE: Always slacken both multipoint head cap screws to avoid tension in the power window system.
Attach suction hoist (1) to door window glass.
Adjust longitudinal direction (X) and retraction depth (Z) to door window.
NOTE: When adjusting retraction depth, ensure special tool 2 304 553 lays on door window glass free of play.
Installation note:
If special tool 51 3 240 is used, the prescribed tightening torque (MDV) reduces depending on the torque wrench used. The torque (MDE) to be set on the torque wrench must be calculated as per the adjacent overview:
Tighten multipoint head cap screw (1) with special tool 51 3 240 and torque wrench (1) to calculated torque to be set .
NOTE:
- After completing adjustment work, it is essential to initialise the power window unit.
- Checking run-in of door window glass:
