SUBJECT
Service Action: Program Control Units (OBD Communication)
MODEL
F10 (ActiveHybrid 5) produced to 8/1/2012
F30 (ActiveHybrid 3) produced to 8/10/2012
SITUATION
The vehicles affected by this Service Action require a vehicle software update in order to address non-compliance pertaining to an incomplete parameter in the OBD (onboard diagnostics) test process.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves select F10 (ActiveHybrid 5) and F30 (ActiveHybrid 3) vehicles produced to 8/1/2012 and 8/10/2012 respectively.
In order to determine whether a specific vehicle has had this Service Action or Recall Campaign completed or is affected by this Service Action, first check the B-pillar label for code number 624. If code number 624 has been punched out, the campaign has already been performed. If code number 624 has not been punched out, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.
Before starting work, you MUST observe the safety information with regard to handling hybrid vehicles.
Program the vehicle using ISTA/P 2.47.5 or later.
Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.
For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to CenterNet / Aftersales Portal / Service / Workshop Technology / Vehicle Programming
Note:
When the ISTA system message displays: Battery voltage only "XX.XX" V. Please connect charger. Please note the displayed battery voltage reading in the repair order comments section.
LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one, because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
The repair described in this bulletin is covered under warranty regardless of time or mileage.
Reimbursement for this Service Action will be via normal claim entry utilizing the information shown:
[NEW] Labor operation codes 00 60 923 and 00 60 922 are both Plus labor operations.
[NEW] If a control module was working properly and/or had no related faults stored prior to vehicle programming and it fails to program correctly or requires initialization, this additional work must be claimed with separate labor operations under the defect code listed above; refer to KSD2.
