A/C - Compressor Inoperative/Cycles Too Often

Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor Inoperative, A/C Cycles Too Often, Insufficient Cooling, Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0530, (Replace A/C High Pressure Valve on Mitsubishi Compressors Only)

Models:
2002-2003 Buick Rendezvous
2001-2003 Chevrolet Venture
2001-2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette
2001-2003 Pontiac Aztek, Montana
with Mitsubishi Air Compressor

Condition

Some customers may comment that the A/C is inoperative, the A/C system cycles too often, and/or cooling is insufficient. DTC P0530 may be set.

Correction

Diagnose and repair the A/C system following the service procedure below:

1. Leak test the A/C system. Refer to Leak Testing SI Document ID # 762998.

2. Inspect the A/C high pressure valve for leaks located on the A/C compressor. If the A/C high pressure valve is the source of the leak, continue with the next step. If the A/C high pressure valve is not the source of the leak, refer to Diagnostic Starting Point - Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning SI Document ID # 663892.

3. Recover the refrigerant from the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging SI Document ID # 820665.

4. Remove the A/C high pressure valve from the compressor and discard.

5. Replace the A/C high pressure valve, P/N 10337355.

Tighten

Tighten the A/C high pressure valve to 12 N.m (9 ft lbs)

6. Vacuum and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging SI Document ID # 820665.

7. Plug in a scan tool and check for DTC P0530. If DTC P0530 is set, use the scan tool to clear the DTC. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC refer to DTC P0530 SI Document ID # 759618. If P0530 resets, run the diagnostic.
