Knock Sensor (KS) Replacement-Bank 1

KNOCK SENSOR (KS) REPLACEMENT - BANK 1

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Turn the ignition OFF.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
3. Remove the catalytic converter.
4. Disconnect the intermediate steering shaft from the steering gear.




5. Position a utility stand beneath the rear center section of the frame in order to support the powertrain.
6. Remove the frame rear bolts.

IMPORTANT: Do not lower the powertrain more than 100 mm (4 in).

7. Carefully lower the powertrain in order to provide access.

IMPORTANT: Use a universal or swivel socket with a long extension in order to remove the bolts.




8. Remove the crank sensor heat shield bolts and the heat shield.




9. Disconnect the knock sensor (KS) electrical connector.

IMPORTANT: Use a universal or swivel socket with a long extension in order to remove the bolt.




10. Remove the KS bolt and the KS.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the KS with the KS bolt.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

IMPORTANT: Use a universal or swivel socket with a long extension in order to install the bolt.

2. Install the KS bolt.

Tighten the KS bolt to 23 N.m (17 lb ft).




3. Install the KS electrical connector.

IMPORTANT: Use a universal or swivel socket with a long extension in order to install the bolts.




4. Install the crank sensor heat shield and the heat shield bolts.

Tighten
- Tighten the upper crank sensor heat shield bolt (1) to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
- Tighten the lower crank sensor heat shield bolt (2) to 50 N.m (37 lb in).




5. Raise the powertrain until the frame contacts the chassis.
6. Install the frame rear bolts.
7. Connect the intermediate steering shaft to the steering gear.
8. Install the catalytic converter.
9. Lower the vehicle.
