Cylinder Head Replacement - Left
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the powertrain module from the vehicle.
2. Remove the generator.
3. Remove the left bank secondary timing chain.
4. Remove the oil level indicator.





5. Remove the heat shield from the coolant temperature sensor and disconnect the coolant temperature sensor electrical connector.

Important: Do not remove the exhaust crossover pipe.

6. Disconnect the exhaust crossover pipe from the left bank exhaust manifold.





7. Remove the cylinder head with the exhaust manifold.





8. Remove and discard the cylinder head gasket.
9. Clean and inspect the cylinder head and the engine block sealing surfaces. Refer to Cylinder Head Cleaning and Inspection and Engine Block Cleaning and Inspection.
10. If necessary, perform the following steps:
^ Remove the exhaust manifold from the cylinder head.
^ Disassemble the cylinder head.

Installation Procedure
1. If necessary, perform the following steps:
^ Assemble the cylinder head.
^ Install the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head.





2. Install a NEW cylinder head gasket.





3. Carefully install the cylinder head with the exhaust manifold to the engine.

Important: Do not remove the exhaust crossover pipe.

4. Connect the exhaust crossover pipe to the left bank exhaust manifold.





5. Install the coolant temperature sensor electrical connector heat shield.
6. Install the oil level indicator.
7. Install the left bank secondary timing chain.
8. Install the generator.
9. Install the assembled powertrain module to the vehicle.
