Engine Front Cover Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the drive belt tensioner.
2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System (Static Fill) Draining and Filling Cooling System (Vac-N-Fill).
3. Remove the oil pan.
4. Remove the crankshaft balancer.
5. Remove the thermostat bypass pipe from the engine front cover.
6. Remove the radiator outlet hose from the engine front cover.
7. Remove the power steering pump from the engine.
8. Remove the engine front cover bolts (540, 541, and 545).
9. Remove the engine front cover.
10. Remove the engine front cover gasket.
11. Remove the drive belt shield bolt and the drive belt shield, if replacing the engine front cover.
12. Remove the water pump, if replacing the engine front cover.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the water pump, if the engine front cover was replaced.
2. Install the engine front cover gasket.
3. Apply sealer to both sides of the lower tabs of the engine front cover gasket. Refer to Sealers, Adhesives, and Lubricants for the correct part number. Apply the sealer no less than 5.0 mm (0.20 in) wide.
4. Install the engine front cover.
5. Apply sealer to the bolts in the locations pointed out in the graphic. Refer to Sealers, Adhesives, and Lubricants for the correct part number.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.
6. Install the engine front cover bolts (545).
Tighten the bolts to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).
7. Install the engine front cover bolts (540, 541).
Tighten the bolts to 55 N.m (41 lb ft).
8. Install the power steering pump to the engine..
9. Install the radiator outlet hose to the engine front cover.
10. Install the thermostat bypass pipe to the engine front cover.
11. Install the crankshaft balancer.
12. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System (Static Fill) Draining and Filling Cooling System (Vac-N-Fill).
13. Install the drive belt tensioner.
