Ignition Coil: Service and Repair



Ignition Coil Replacement

Removal Procedure




1. Remove the intake manifold cover.
2. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose from the intake manifold.




3. Disconnect the engine harness electrical connector (1) from the ignition coil.




4. Disconnect the spark plug wires (2, 4, and 6) from the ignition coil.




5. Disconnect the spark plug wires (1, 3, and 5) from the ignition coil.




6. Remove the engine harness clip (1) from the ignition coil bracket.




7. Remove the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) clip from the ignition coil bracket.




8. Remove the ignition coil bolts/nuts.
9. Remove the ignition coil.
10. Remove the ignition coil studs, if necessary.

Installation Procedure






Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

1. Install the ignition coil studs, if necessary.

Tighten the studs to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

2. Install the ignition coil.
3. Install the ignition coil bolts/nuts.

Tighten the bolts/nuts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).




4. Install the HO2S clip to the ignition coil bracket.




5. Install the engine harness clip (1) to the ignition coil bracket.




6. Connect the spark plug wires (1, 3, and 5) to the ignition coil.




7. Connect the spark plug wires (2, 4, and 6) to the ignition coil.




8. Connect the engine harness electrical connector (1) to the ignition coil.




9. Connect the brake booster vacuum hose to the intake manifold.
10. Install the intake manifold cover.
