Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The driver door module (DDM) and the passenger door module (PDM) receive a discreet input from the driver door ajar switch and the passenger door ajar switch respectively. Likewise, the body control module (BCM) receives a discrete input from both the left and right rear door ajar switches. The door ajar switches are normally open when the doors are fully closed. When a door is open, the door ajar switch contacts close providing a path to ground. The driver information center (DIC) displays the appropriate door open message when one of the doors is open. The instrument panel cluster (IPC) receives a serial data message from either the BCM, DDM or PDM indicating the door ajar status. If the message is displayed and the vehicle speed is greater than 8 km/h (5 mph), a chime will sound as a reminder of the door ajar status.
Circuit/System Verification
1. Ignition ON, with all doors closed, observe the scan tool Left Rear Door Ajar Switch parameter and Right Rear Door Ajar Switch parameter while opening and closing the rear doors. The reading should change between Door Closed and Door Ajar.
^ If the value does not change, refer to Rear Door Ajar Switch Malfunction.
2. Observe the scan tool Driver Door Ajar Sw parameter and Passenger Door Ajar Sw parameter while opening and closing the driver door and front passenger door. The reading should change between Active and Inactive.
^ If the value does not change, refer to Front Door Ajar Switch Malfunction.
Circuit/System Testing
Rear Door Ajar Switch Malfunction
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate rear door latch assembly.
2. Test for less than 1.0 ohm between ground circuit terminal listed below and ground:
* LR door latch assembly ground circuit terminal 6
* RR door latch assembly ground circuit terminal 3
^ If not the specified value, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
3. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Rear Door Ajar Switch parameter is Door Closed.
^ If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal listed below for a short to ground:
* LR door latch assembly signal circuit terminal 4
* RR door latch assembly signal circuit terminal 1
^ If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
4. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal and the ground circuit terminal listed below:
* LR door latch assembly signal circuit terminal 4 and ground circuit terminal 6
* RR door latch assembly signal circuit terminal 1 and ground circuit terminal 3
5. Verify the scan tool Rear Door Ajar Switch parameter is Door Ajar.
^ If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
6. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the appropriate rear door latch assembly.
Front Door Ajar Switch Malfunction
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate front door latch assembly.
2. Test for less than 5.0 ohms between ground circuit terminal listed below and ground:
* Driver door latch assembly ground circuit terminal 8.
* Passenger door latch assembly ground circuit terminal 3.
^ If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the appropriate door module.
3. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Door Ajar Sw parameter is Inactive.
^ If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal listed below for a short to ground:
* Driver door latch assembly signal circuit terminal 6
* Passenger door latch assembly signal circuit terminal 1.
^ If the circuit tests normal, replace the appropriate door module.
4. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal and the ground circuit terminal listed below:
* Driver door latch assembly signal circuit terminal 6 and ground circuit terminal 8
* Passenger door latch assembly signal circuit terminal 1 and ground circuit terminal 3.
5. Verify the scan tool Rear Door Ajar Switch parameter is Door Ajar.
^ If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the appropriate door module.
6. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the appropriate front door latch assembly.
Component Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate door latch assembly.
2. With the switch in the open position, test for infinite resistance between the signal and the ground terminals listed below:
* Driver door latch assembly signal terminal 6 and ground terminal 8
* LR door latch assembly signal terminal 4 and ground terminal 6
* Passenger and RR door latch assembly signal terminal 1 and ground terminal 3
^ If not the specified value, replace the appropriate door latch assembly.
3. With the switch in the closed position, test for less than 1.0 ohms between the signal and the ground terminals listed below.
* Driver door latch assembly signal terminal 6 and ground terminal 8
* LR door latch assembly signal terminal 4 and ground terminal 6
* Passenger and RR door latch assembly signal terminal 1 and ground terminal 3
^ If not the specified value, replace the appropriate door latch assembly.
