Second Row Seat "Easy Entry" Function Inoperative (Replace Seat Recliner Stop Pin)

Models:
2008-2009 Buick Enclave
2009 Chevrolet Traverse
2007-2009 GMC Acadia
2007-2009 Saturn OUTLOOK

Condition

Some customers may comment that the 60% portion of the second row seat doesn't slide forward when using the "Easy Entry" function.

Cause

This condition may be due to a broken or missing seat recliner stop pin.

Correction

Important
Do not replace the seat frame for this condition.

The recliner stop pin has been made available as a service part. Use the following steps to diagnose the seat and replace the recliner stop pin.

1. Activate the" Easy Entry" lever on the outboard side of the seat. Observe the cable actuator from the inboard side of the seat as the lower cushion rises (1). As the seat back folds forward, the cable actuator will rotate in an upwards direction and apply tension to the two cables (2). This tension will release the inboard and outboard seat track locks and allow the seat assembly to move forward in the vehicle.

2. If the cable actuator fails to rotate, the recliner stop pin may be missing. Use the following steps to install a new service recliner stop pin into the recliner assembly.

1. Remove the rear seat adjuster assembly. Refer to Rear Seat Adjuster Replacement (with 60 Percent Seat) in SI.

2. Locate the cable actuator and the recliner stop pin mounting area.

3. Clean the mounting area and prepare the area for welding.

4. Install the pin into the hole. Note that the pin has an anti-rotation feature and will only fit in one position.

5. Clamp the pin in position.

6. Mig weld the pin in the locations as shown.

7. Apply a protective coating to the weld repair area, such as GM P/N 89021939 (in Canada, P/N 992651) Low Gloss Spray Paint Black, or the equivalent.

8. Cycle the recliner mechanism and verify that the stop pin, the actuator and the cables are functioning correctly.

9. Reinstall the rear seat adjuster assembly. Refer to Rear Seat Adjuster Replacement (with 60 Percent Seat) in SI.

3. With the seat assembly installed, verify the proper operation of the "Easy Entry" function.
