Condition
Some customers may comment that the overhead dome/reading lamp is intermittently inoperative or will not function when the button is pressed.
Cause
The cause of this condition may be due to the switch button being too long.
Correction
Do not replace the lamp assembly for this condition. To correct this condition, sand or file down the length of the switch button using the following procedure.
Remove the roof console or lamp assembly.
Carefully use a plastic flat bladed tool and release the clips retaining the assembly to the roof.
Grasp the assembly and pull downward to disengage the retainers.
Disconnect the electrical connectors.
Remove the three screws retaining the lamp housing to the bezel.
Slide the buttons out of their bores from the back side of the bezel.
Observe the switch end of the button and look for the cavity number (1) in the part.
Place sandpaper on a flat surface and lightly sand the switch end of the button until the cavity number is no longer visible. Be sure that the switch end is sanded evenly and that any loose material is cleaned from the end of the button.
Place the buttons back into the bezel.
Reassemble the lamp assembly and install to the roof.
Test the operation of the switch buttons.
